My Favorite Blog Posts On Creativity

Happy ThanksgivingHere are some of my favorite posts on creativity and its expression though our lives in Christ! Enjoy and be creative!

Creativity – It’s All In Christ Jesus

In the beginning, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit spoke and created the heavens and the earth. Creativity flowed! There is seen, in creation, diversity, beauty, form, flow, and function on every level, from the smallest cell to the largest star. God breathed and formed a human being. There is creativity resident in man through His breath and in the power of the Holy Spirit in Christ. Read more…..

A Circular Flow – Creativity In Christ

Jesus did not live life according to a linear reality such as a timeline. He allowed people and situations to impact His life along His journey. He knew that He came from the Father and was going back to the Father (Circular Rhythm). In this way of life, He stopped, led by the Holy Spirit, for anything that intersected with His life. He moved circularly if you get my picture visually. He lived creatively to the sound of heaven. So He valued the day-to-day, led by the Spirit. His life was full and quite busy, yet He moved in rest. A River of Life – Creativity

Creativity is about flow and movement in life– what is in you, flowing out of you. The alternative to flow would be creativity trapped inside, with great potential, but growing lethargic and stagnant unable to be released. Creativity is about Jesus Christ in me. That is the foundation upon which my creative passion is founded, Christ in me in the power of Holy Spirit. He is like a river that flows, unhindered and free, through my life. Read more….

The Power of the Imagination – Captured for the Cause of Truth

Lewis’ imagination flowed through His work. The fantasy and beauty of Narnia manifests the eternal truth of Jesus Christ in the flow and form of the movie. The power of imagination is wonderful. It takes me to a glorious place in the Spirit where I find myself entering into the story. Isn’t that what it is all about? I enter the story and my life narrative is transformed. Read more…..

Creating Beauty While Living in A world of Chaos

This world thrives in the midst of tension and chaos. Unsettling on every front, current events drive us either into a sense a fear or subtle escapism. In Christ, I choose to bow my knee to neither. Perfect love casts out fear. As the love of Christ flows into my life, fear evaporates in the glory of His presence. Read more…..

Imagination in Christ

Christian imagination evokes both negative and positive feelings in people. In studying this each day. I conclude that Imagination is the connector between mind/heart giving us images, pictures, revelation – in essence, bringing heaven to earth. The mind and the heart, working together. Read more…..

Creativity – Expressed

Creativity has expression through people in art, music, dance, prophetic words, visions, dreams, revelation, and on and on. The Holy Spirit is endless, varied, and multifaceted in His forms of expression in our lives or in a meeting. This post is about Holy Spirit expression in our meetings in Rivers of Eden. The Holy Spirit moves and we interpret what He is doing or saying.  I can often see the direction that He desires to move, the picture He wants to paint, and the story He wants to tell. Holy Spirit is like the master conductor that says, “Follow Me as I lead the way!” Read more…..

Courage in All Ways – Especially in Being Creative

Creativity is courageous. It is a necessary element needing to be infused into the Body of Christ. Not staged or produced but infused. The alternative to Holy Spirit creativity, as expressed through God’s people –robotic Christians who know form and structure but never touch the heart of Jesus Christ. There has been enough of that. Creativity – The Breath of God

Creativity does not flow in a vacuum (a space or container in which the air has been completely or partly removed.) God breathed into Adam and that breath was life-giving. God created through His breath, forming Adam. Read more…..

Aslan is not a Tame Lion – C.S. Lewis, Imagination and Creativity

C.S. Lewis used the power of image stirring the imagination to run wild. His own imagination along with humor and creativity, all  invested in Biblical truth, still ministers to people of all ages. His passion  in telling an old story, still introduces many to God. Brilliant in theology and apologetics, He did not only rely on the preached word in a formal setting to convey Biblical truth. He used His imagination. Read more….

Gazing at a Picture and Whoosh, Swept into Its life

With any great work of art, to appreciate its beauty I must go beyond observation and gaze at it with new perspective. That which I gaze upon transforms me. I should look with new eyes enlightened by Holy Spirit. I continue to gaze and things seem to be moving right before my eyes. Hope is rising. Risk is at the forefront and some decisions will be made right at that moment. Believe and receive. Read more…..

Creative Expression – Soundproof Rooms

I was in a soundproof room. I began to speak – words of promise, words of destiny, words filled with faith. Over time, I realized that this room’s energy tried to contain and restrain my voice. The words seemed to be crashing against the ceiling, bouncing off of the walls, and clashing into each other. My initial response was to speak louder and louder but it did not seem to help. Read more…

Don’t Turn A Suddenly Into A Settle

In worship and prayer this morning, I found myself inquiring of God about a door in ministry that suddenly and recently opened for me. What I heard Him say, quite honestly, astounded me. He spoke to the deep well within me. Read more…..

Now You See Him, Now You Don’t – Faith And Imagination

I remember one time being so frustrated while reading the Bible that I literally threw it on the floor, laid out flat, and put my forehead right on top of the verse that I was reading. I not only wanted to read the word, I wanted to live and experience the word. I am still that way. I want to live, move and have by being in the living Word of God, Jesus Christ. Read more…..

Explosions of Light Move Me Along In Life

Life constantly brings me down into its reality, where formulas don’t work, answers run out, and everything we thought would be, did not come about. Life twists and turns along a chaotic path. It’s not built on templates, or someone else’s path to prosperity or even on enough positive thoughts. Read more…..

Creating Beauty While Living In A World of Chaos

I live in the world, but as a Christian, I am not of the world. My identity is formed in Christ in me. I am seated in heavenly places. I am a new creation in Christ. There are many verses to substantiate these claims in previous blogs. So let’s rest on this sure foundation – we are in Christ in the world.

Walking towards the lightThis world thrives in the midst of tension and chaos. Unsettling on every front, current events drive us either into a sense a fear or subtle escapism. In Christ, I choose to bow my knee to neither.

Perfect love casts out fear. As the love of Christ flows into my life, fear evaporates in the glory of His presence.

Escapism is also not an option. I am a creative realist – taking what life seemingly throws at me, I keep on moving. Life is too precious in Christ to admit defeat AND if there are days that get me down, I rise up and stay strong as soon as possible.

So many of my thoughts are flowing from an excellent article written by NT Wright, The Bible and Christian Imagination.

Here we have the world at large – both beautiful and ugly.

“Seeing one does not defy the existence of the other.” NT Wright

PaintbrushSo, it seemingly depends upon my spiritual vision more than my natural vision to live creativity, manifesting beauty through my life. If I gaze upon the reality of ugliness, which abounds on every side, beauty is hidden from me. Beauty does exist and it is beauty that I must gaze upon. It is beauty and truth that capture writers. It is beauty and wonder that excites the artist. We live by gazing upon the beauty of the Lord Jesus Christ and reflecting His glory through our life and our creativity. I move in an opposing spirit to that which tries to weigh me down in chaos, death and destruction. It is beauty that astonishes the eye. Beauty grabs the heart to dream. Eternity calls us to come into its reality, here and now.

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:17-18 NKJV)

I struggle. I suffer. Yet all things are working in Christ to display an exceeding weight of glory in my life, now and forever. I choose to look at the reality of eternity to interject beauty and truth into people that are downcast, distraught, abandoned or feeling insignificant and small. In Christ, I am light in the midst of darkness. Eternity is my reality. I am passing through all of this as a Christian. I keep my eyes focused on Christ and keep walking, being sure that I am called and chosen for such a time as this. Of that I am quite sure.

Imagination flows through an informed study and meditation of Scripture. That brings eternity right into the midst. It does not yet take me out of the world but opens my eyes to see by faith. I walk in my sanctified imagination to bring creativity into the earth.

While ministering in the poor areas of Eldoret, Kenya many years ago, the Lord specifically told me to preach on beauty. This astounded me and left me somewhat bewildered. As I looked around, I saw only poverty and lack. Many people living there hardly thought about beauty. Their concentration was on daily subsistence and living one day at a time. At least that is what I thought.

Deep inside I realized how wrong I actually was. Despite poverty and lack, people hold dreams and visions within their hearts. They often don’t realize it. They don’t feel the freedom to even accept the fact that they can dream in the midst of life’s trials. To preach on beauty seemed irrelevant and superfluous. Yet God kept telling me to preach on beauty so I did, off the cuff, which means flowing in Holy Spirit. I preached on gazing on His beauty. I preached on ascending in worship. I preached on displaying His glory right where they lived.

We are called to co-create with God and in God through revelation, ideas, and directions given to us in Holy Spirit.

To create beauty in the midst of tension, poverty, or lack.

To dream in the midst of encroaching darkness.

To engage with reality right where we are, living, moving and having our being in Christ.

To take our little corner of the world and to manifest heaven on earth, stirring up hope and possibility everywhere we are.

No one is beyond manifesting beauty and truth right now. No one. No matter how deep the inner and outer poverty we live in, we are called to gaze upon His beauty and reflect His glory. To show forth His beauty through the creative expression of Christ in us, the hope of glory.

Rise up today from fear! Creativity takes courage to rise up and to actually create! Start right where you are in Christ. One idea may challenge us to move out in a Holy Spirit faith direction. Lacking money or time does not divert our sense of purpose. Rejection does not hinder us. We live by faith in the Son of God who consistently tells us to dream big. He whispers that nothing is impossible in Him.

I write to inspire today. This subject is part of my DNA in Christ so I can’t shut it off or turn it down. Each time I write, I give small pieces and ask you to run with it. To finish this story within yourself through your own life. I always desire closure when I get close to the end of a blog post. I almost never get it for it is bigger than me right now. Creativity is my passion, my life. Enjoy! Think. Meditate. Dream.

Creative Flow – Exercise Discernment

creative-sparkChristian experience is a spiritual sense, taste, or relish of the goodness, sweetness, and excellence of the truths of the gospel. And no tongue can express the satisfaction, which the soul receives, from a sense of Divine goodness, grace, and love to it in Christ. Matthew Henry Commentary

But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. (Hebrews 5:14 NKJV)

If we truly want to step into creativity, then we must go beyond the confines of religious exercise, which lacks the essence of Holy Spirit direction. Creativity conveys Kingdom reality, focusing on Christ alone. Holy Spirit manifests flow and direction. Christianity moves within spiritual senses – tasting to see God is good, engaging with Scripture visually and even at times smelling the very fragrance of Christ as we encounter His glory.

In my own life, through prayer, fasting, study of the Word, and worship, I exercise my senses to discern good or evil. Discernment is key to know the difference. Maturity brings discernment. And in discernment, I walk in a broad place of freedom and expression, led in Christ through Holy Spirit. Visions, revelation, prophetic dance and song are interpreted in the Spirit through those trained in the experiences.

MatchYes, to engage in imagination or creativity, many will fall prey to error and practices that do not focus on Christ. But, that does not mean that we stay in a narrow place of fear, unable to walk in a broad place in Christ Jesus. It is discernment that has been tempered through use, that give us the knowing between that which is of God and Holy Spirit and that which is of the flesh. Without creativity, Christianity becomes a static one-dimensional reality that flows through the mind alone. Without creativity and maturity, Christianity is chaotic and off-center, resting in emotions and feelings. With both the mind and the heart engaged and informed, Christianity is alive and organic, ever flowing in new fresh ways in Christ.

I choose to walk in that broad place, trusting Christ in me, not of myself, to lead and guide me in creative ways, innovation, and informed imagination. To usher in Kingdom creativity, flowing through people, we step out in faith, one step at a time.

Rivers of Eden Ministry – Creativity! This Is It!

Rivers of Eden Ministry…..Creativity Abounds in Christ Jesus

There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. (Psalms 46:4 NKJVS)

Rivers of Eden – helping people live outside the box, calling them into their unique creative identity and expression in Christ Jesus.

He also brought me out into a broad place; He delivered me because He delighted in me. (Psalms 18:19 NKJVS)

Rivers of Eden – leading people into a broad place of identity and freedom, where Christ Jesus brings deliverance, healing and restoration.

As a creative force, Rivers of Eden imparts wholeness into the lives of people who have a creative bent given to them by God. Currently, we accomplish this vision in several ways.

Discipleship – Prophetic teaching focused on living, moving and having our being in Christ Jesus. (Acts 17:28) This discipleship is based on 4 distinct sections.

  1. Being in Christ– Establishing people in a clear revelation of their salvation and transformation in Christ, prophetically teaching on the beauty of the finished work of the cross of Christ.
  2. Living in Christ– Focusing on the reality that as new creations in Christ Jesus, we are seated in heavenly places giving a fresh perspective in how we live our lives on earth.
  3. Moving in Christ– Living our life in the Holy Spirit, supernaturally manifesting heaven on earth.
  4. Creative Expression in Christ– Each of us are the creative expressions of Christ in us, the hope of glory. Through revelatory prophetic teaching, people will rise up to BE creative in whatever sphere God has placed them in the earth. As we teach on creativity and its importance in the Body of Christ, people awaken into destiny.

Prophetic Gatherings – Expressing heaven’s creative flow, we allow the Holy Spirit to lead and direct us in prophetic preaching and worship. Our heart is to establish creative teams that flow and move in distinct creative ways under the orchestration of eternity.

Mentoring, Prophesying, and Encouragement – Each of us has a creative bent whether that be in the arts, in teaching, in business, or in administration. People need to be encouraged to BE in Christ in whatever sphere He places them in the earth. Our call is to bring creativity back into the Body of Christ so that the world sees Jesus in His glory and splendor. Each life, gathering, or church service should respond to heaven’s directive. As Holy Spirit creative orchestrators, we hope to establish a creative flow wherever God sends us through the presence, glory and power of God flowing through our lives.
