Prophets – In Deep Waters

Ocean WaveHere I am in deep waters, far away from any sign of land. Waves surge up and down, settling me briefly into watery valleys that hinder my vision. I hope to see some glimpse of land, some reference point that would lead me up and away from the deep waters into the shallows of what is familiar and comfortable. Yet, each time I rise up, the view is the same – more waves and a vast expanse of sky that causes me to feel a spiritual vertigo. If I look too long without anything to focus on, I feel a bit dizzy in this new place.

How did I get here? Well, I cried out a simple prayer, “More Lord.” When that prayer reached a crescendo, rising into the ears of God, He lifted me up and brought me out into the deep to call me unto Himself.

Despite my disdain for religion and my dislike for the mundane, at least the shallow waters lent themselves to some sort of fellowship and preaching. Out here there’s nothing. No distractions. It’s just the sound of the waves as the wind swirls around me.

To stay afloat, I can tread water but that gets tiring over time. How long will that keep me afloat anyway?

Nothing to lean on. Nowhere to go. It’s just me and the wind and the waves. What purpose does this serve? How does this fit into God’s mighty plan for my life?

I knew it would come to this. After all, when I cried out “More Lord” what did I expect? To be drawn up in the midst of churchianity or to be drawn out into the deep?

For years, a discontent grew within my whole being whenever I entertained the thought of church – business as usual, mundane boring programs, performance driven worship teams or leadership that micromanaged everything down to the last minute. This discontent almost killed me. It was at this point that God whispered into my being. “If you want to go deeper, you have to be drawn into the deep waters.”

Water flowingWhen it first happens, loneliness sets in along with a penchant to stay alive by any means possible. You know what I’m talking about if you are following along with this by the Spirit. Thinking that this won’t last too long or that God will let me go back to the safety of the shoreline. You get that right?

But as the waves come and go, I realize that it’s impossible to have both – sanctimonious religion and God ordained, Spirit led, Jesus loving relationship. It’s impossible for desire and passion to grow in environments self-serving to man’s agenda without any regard to precious Holy Spirit.

When drawn into the deep by the hand of God, there is only one thing to do. Release, let go and allow Him to pull you down into His depths. There is no returning to normalcy after that. When I release myself to the hand of God and He pulls me under, I have only one recourse of action left in my life.

Release everything to Him. Trust Him.

What’s the alternative? Catching a wave back into shore, splashing around in the shallows with those who want nothing more from God than the latest conference or next trendy worship CD. There are no options left for me.

I release myself into the depths of my Lord.

Over time, I discover a new paradigm takes over. What was focused years ago on external Christianity in the realm of performance, agenda and works is now focused on being in union with Christ, so that my life flows in Christ………..as He is, so am I in the world. This reality infuses my life with His life. It is Christ in me. Christ in me.

It is in the depths, the deep waters, that I find truth, the person of Christ in the depths of His love, His grace and His mercy flowing into my life.

God calls prophets into the deep waters for seasons of increased revelation, growth and maturity. It is a pulling aside, going deeper, intimate times with God apart from the routine and ritual that religious Christianity brings.

Prophets in deep waters love God and love His people. The deep is necessary to strengthen the message that will resonate through every fiber of our being. It is a call to love God wholeheartedly with our whole mind, body and soul, forsaking anything the world offers that tries to take the place of God. Our message is fine-tuned here, uncompromised, not conforming to standard or ritual.

What is the message you may ask? Is it some mysterious revelation that sets us apart? Is it some new teaching that will draw others to us, eyes wide open, gazing in admiration at us and our anointing?

It’s quite simple. It is the centrality of Christ; Jesus being all in all with every prophetic utterance issuing forth a revelation of the preeminence and glory, in the person of Christ.

In the deep, He forms the hearts before He fashions the words coming from our lives. Each word has its beginning and ending in the person of Jesus Christ. Our lives are changed. He is our all in all.

The deep brings a reality that forms in us and lives through us in Christ. We may be called back into the shallows and back onto land but the revelation imparted here will be the foundation of our lives. Radical prophets submitted to God, loving people and challenging the very nature of the church, as we know it.

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has become His counselor? Or who has first given to Him and it shall be repaid to him? For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen. Romans 11:33-36

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. Colossians 1:15-18

Prophetic Words – Quality Not Quantity

2091419-Paul-the-Apostle-Quote-For-to-me-to-live-is-Christ-and-to-die-isThe testimony of Jesus flows through prophecy. The essence of prophecy is Jesus Christ, the living Word of God. Every prophetic word I receive take up residence in my heart.  I watch it form in me as the life of Christ grows and expands within me.

In the beginning, I grabbed each word and rushed with them, believing that the time was always NOW for its manifestation. I took no interest in them forming my character….I wanted them now and rushed forward prematurely into the reality of the words without the Reality of the WORD, Jesus Christ.

God is not so much interested in prophetic word after prophetic word released into our lives.  He is watching the forming of Christ in us, the Living Word to flow through the words we are given. With each word comes a responsibility to watch Christ form His life in and through us. Each true prophetic word we are given allows the life of Christ to be formed in us. And before true life comes, there is a death. Death always comes before true resurrection power flows.

That means we see something begin to happen within as we release ourselves to Him.

To live is Christ, and to die is gain. Phillipians 1:21

Each true prophetic word miraculously causes a death within us before a life in the word begins to bloom. The Father is intent on seeing the Son glorified – not man, not the prophetic, not the gifts. To live is Christ and to die is gain.

We don’t orchestrate our own death. You can’t choose to die. You are already dead. Now the choice is to live…..to live in Christ. That naturally comes along with a submission to His will and His ways.

For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God..Colossians 3:3

We died in Christ and our life is not our own. Therefore a true prophetic word is not our own but has been orchestrated in heaven to be deposited in our lives, worked through our lives as we humble ourselves before our Lord, and flows through our lives over time.

With each prophetic words comes a greater death to our desires, our will, our ways………so before we jump on every word that comes our way…….realize that each one comes with an invitation……more of Him……less of me.

Moving Out Upon A Prophetic Word

I Drove A Lonely RoadMove out upon prophetic words in faith, but that requires walking in sync with Holy Spirit. Respond to the sound of the word and take it in. If it is true, it is settled in heaven and its manifestation requires the timing of the Lord. Sometimes a day and sometimes years.

Move in sync with Holy Spirit as the word is formed in you. Just because you receive a word does not mean that it is formed in you. The forming takes place as the life of Christ works its way through the word in humility, grace, truth……

The word does not unfold in our timing. The unfolding is revealed step by step in intimacy with the Lord. So many receive word upon word upon word but it is not quantity that counts. It is the quality of the unfolding of each true prophetic word in Christ working its way through our lives. The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. All prophecy and all prophetic lives flowing from the word given give glory to the Son.

First Steps Are Important – What Are You Waiting For?

Raleigh At NightSettled in Raleigh for such a time as this. The journey to get here has been one wild ride, filled with excitement along with a bit of healthy fear mixed in. Change and transition, even when you know it is God’s direction, is still a bit crazy when you move into an area that you don’t really know.

Unfolding before me is a year filled with many exciting opportunities, writing, speaking and travel. So before I start blogging again let me give you a run down of these past 6 months. When I write it out, it gives me a perspective on God’s story for my life and how He and I are writing it out together.

Awhile back, during those weeks prior to actually stepping out in faith to come to Raleigh, God whispered to me, “In this next season, I call you to be a Travel Scribe.”

My response, “What is that?”

His reply, “Just follow me. I’ll show you.”

I stepped out in faith, allowing Him to reveal His plans for me. He directed me into several new venues, some of which took me by surprise.

This past May, Women In Ministry Network led by Patricia King ordained me and 16 other glorious women at the Women On The Frontlines Conference in Phoenix. This act of obedience catapulted me into a new realm of spiritual sight and active faith. Connections were made and it suddenly occurred to me that I found my tribe. This act of obedience connected me locally with other women, their churches and other God ordained apostolic-prophetic networks

Then through God’s leading, I joined a Scribal Prophet group led by Apostle Theresa Harvard. (Now if you have an aversion to titles or that God calls women into this, get over it. No debating here. Women are rising up in this hour.) Along with several conferences and a mentoring group, I will branch out in writing prophetically with more boldness and courage. Connections are growing and flourishing. And it is all a confirmation of the call to be a Travel Scribe.

But, there’s more. It’s time to connect with writers who are serious about their craft so I joined Jeff Goins Tribe Writers. So far, so wonderful. It’s 9 month of webinars, mentoring, writing, relationships……….

Apex Community PartAll these venues, along with a few others, came on the heels of a simple act of obedience to move to Raleigh when God said to move. We never really know what doors will open until we take that first step.

I want to expand my reach and extend my path in courage because I believe I have something to say to a prophetic generation that is rising throughout the earth. My life reveals that I carry God’s message, unique to me, as I walk it out in creative adventurous ways. I find this to be very important because it encourages people to know Holy Spirit, leading us on a grand adventure in Christ. If you love religion, you won’t like these posts. In fact, you will probably ignore them because you are satisfied with things being done in a predictable manner. That’s not me. From the moment, I encountered Jesus, I realized He was looking for me all along. When He called me to be a Travel Scribe, it resonated in my spirit before I could really grasp the reality of that call.

Add it all up->

Travel + Speaking + Writing + Photography + Adventure + Passion for Jesus + Love Holy Spirit + Spontaneity + Creativity = Debra

Who could ask for anything more? Don’t you want to be you? Ask God to lead you on His adventure to reveal His life through you.

God Weaves His Story Through Your Life

Enjoy the JourneySo often we can lose ourselves in the “Big Picture”, gazing at the horizon of what could be, what may be, or what will come. In doing that, we lose a sense of our purpose in the moment, in the now – discouragement or disillusionment sets in quickly.

Our lives are works of art, created in Christ, loved by the Father and walked out in Holy Spirit.

Look at your life. Look at the story God is weaving through all your experiences, good and bad. There is a picture God wants to show you so that Christ can live His life through you, uniquely and creatively. We are the story and we are the message of our life in Christ.

Take time to get alone to simply BE and allow the Spirit to minister to you and Jesus to speak to you.

What I was as a child, I am now – creative, spontaneous, loving adventure……….Jesus says that we are to be like children in our faith. To believe that we walk out the mysteries of His love and grace day by day.

As adults, we lose this sense of wonder along the way due to life’s pressures along with many other things that come against us and try to destroy our wonder and innocence in the beauty of Jesus.

Childlike faith moves out in simplicity and trust as Holy Spirit leads the way. I think perhaps we need to look back upon our lives as children, not to focus on all the pain, wounds or our negative feelings about what our parents did or did not do……….forgive and then allow the Lord to reveal to you how you are made, who you are, and why you are in such a time as this……….what was taken away due to life’s ongoing pressure is now coming alive in Christ. What’s your story? Look carefully and see all the little things that make you…….YOU.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you…Jeremiah 1:5

For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made…..Psalm 139:13-14
