Breakthrough – What exactly does that mean? Prophetically speaking

Breakthrough…I woke up the other day and saw that word right before my spiritual eyes.

Breakthrough!!!

Later that morning, I looked up the definition.

Breakthrough

  • Sudden increase in knowledge, understanding, etc.
  • An important discovery that happens after trying for a long time to understand or explain something.
  • A sudden advance, especially of knowledge or technique.
  • An act of sudden breaking.

I wanted to know its meaning because in the current round of prophetic words, it seems that words like breakthrough, new, or revival have become a bit cliché and overused. What is God saying through the word ‘breakthrough”? Are we making assumptions when we hear about breakthrough?

Breakthrough brings me UP, going from glory to glory and faith to faith. Up into a heavenly reality of being in Christ, seated in heavenly places. Going up signifies that I am in the world but not of the world. While living as a spiritual being, I still encounter trials of various kinds. Breakthrough never promises a life that is on coast mode without struggle. Breakthrough takes us up into a greater revelation of Christ in me and I walk in the earth realm with a heavenly mindset and perspective. I’ll never escape the reality of suffering. Let’s make that clear.

Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 13 but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy 1 Peter 4:12-13

I am breaking into greater revelation of Christ Jesus – His person, His purpose, my identity in Christ…

That may not always change outward circumstances immediately because breakthrough implies breaking through………some thing. What hinders me from seeing Christ in my current circumstances, as hard as they may be? Or as Graham Cooke says, “Where is my upgrade in what I am facing?” Sometimes breakthrough is slow and steady because God is more concerned with a life well lived rather than to pull us out of trying circumstances. Ouch! How often is that preached? Yet how many of us are going through hard times. Many, as far as I can see.

In my life right now, I sometimes feel bored and restless which can escalate into frustration or even anger. And I am in the midst of breakthrough. A breakthrough in spiritual vision to see Him in greater ways, a breakthrough in spiritual hearing to hear clearly, and a breakthrough to know Him more intimately. Some things around me in the natural are changing slowly while others are changing quicker but it’s all breakthrough into a greater dimension of a life lived to the glory of Jesus Christ.

So when prophetic words promise breakthrough, let’s respond in faith to accept the breakthrough rather than emotionally extend ourselves to think that all our problems will suddenly disappear. That’s not always how it goes, does it?

Break through to move ahead in spite of resistance, to worship despite trials and to praise despite anxiety or worry. Break through into living as a mature son and daughter accepting that His ways are higher but Father knows best.

Dreams will be fulfilled. Promises will be realized. All this flows supernaturally in Christ as we simply keep our eyes on Him at all times despite what we are facing. We are breaking through day by day as we grow in Christ. It’s not a destination. He’s the destination and we are completely and perfectly in Him. I have arrived. Breakthrough is the journey in Christ. So, enjoy the journey!

Graffiti on the Walls of Your Life

Abstract graffiti wallEvery child is an artist. The problem is how to remain one when we grow up. Pablo Picasso

Every child is an artist……..until people recklessly graffiti on the walls of our life. They paint with words and images trying to brand us with their way, their truth, their life. We stop living from the inside out, and live from the outside in. Consistently tagged by the plans or well-meaning intentions of others, life and creativity is lost beneath various colors, images, and words…..and they are not ours, not who we believe we are deep inside.

Over time, creativity is lost. We turn into robotic adults who breathe in and breathe out, losing our sense of awe and wonder. It is in this awe and wonder, this childlike faith that creativity flows like a river. As an adult, creativity is dammed up within us by the refuse of pain, sorrow, grief, anger, depression……………

Graffiti 1We walk through life in a daze, wondering who we really are, feeling alienated from the very day that we call our own. What is it? We look deep inside and remember the days of creativity as a child. The graffiti on the walls of our life dictate our course of action. People constantly tag us with everything we can possible imagine and amidst it all, we lose ourselves amidst the chaos. Again, creativity is lost.

As a Christian, we are destined to be creative. It is the DNA of God, our creator in us. Each of us has purpose and promise and everything in this day and age tries to make us robotic and a template of the times and cultural trends at hand. We have to resist that flow with every fiber of our being. Creativity is the river of our lives. Within that river, there is adventure, journey, rest, peace…..this river is the flow of God in Christ through our lives.

AwakeGod breathes into us from the very womb of our existence.

“Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you: A prophet to the nations––that’s what I had in mind for you (Jeremiah 1:5 Message)

“Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank you, High God––you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration––what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day.” (Psalms 139:13-16 Message)

God writes on the walls of you life. He calls you to awaken to who you really are. He restores the journey in our lives, the sense of adventure, the place of creativity. Without it we are cogs in a time machine and it is only in Christ Jesus that we have life.

Little Girl with balloonWhy do I keep focusing on creativity? I believe creativity, divine life in us from the very womb, has been aborted, destroyed, delayed or any number of things. Creativity is the divine expression of Christ in us. Without it, we only go through the motion day by day. Life paves a path of boredom and frustration that eventually flows through defeat on every front. Unfortunately, religion has only enforced that through mundane, robotic Christianity. Creativity is our destiny.

Allow God to restore divine creativity within each of us. We must know that no matter what the circumstances of life have dictated to us, God knew us and placed us in our mother’s womb. For some that is a joyous memory. For others the very thought is painful. For many, they live with regret, anger, pain. The answer is to forgive on all fronts. First of all, know that the plans God has for you are creatively excellent. Forgive parents, friends, teachers – anyone who has attempted through ignorance or through determination to destroy the seeds of creativity that God placed inside of you. After forgiveness, ask the Lord to restore a sense of childlike faith, a sense of wonder at His wonderfulness, His awesomeness, His majesty. Ask Him to breathe His creative breath into you again so that you may co-create with Him, your life in Christ. Live in Christ, creatively.

Ready? Set? Go? False Start!

Apart From MeFalse Start – an attempt to do something you are not ready or able to do; an unsuccessful attempt to begin something.

With a passion to move out in ministry, my zeal often ran ahead of wisdom. In other words, I had a lot of false starts in my life. Timing is everything!

False starts are not failure. God looks at the heart, sees its passion and graces us to start over in a particular endeavor with more wisdom. Failure paralyzes with fear and shame.  False starts? I set out and somehow it just does not work. Perhaps a mistake has been made. Grace abounds in all ways and we learn how to move in sync with God.

I walk back to the starting line to try again. Father God looks at me with great compassion and whispers,  “Wait for Me! Watch me closely this time. Move with me. Live in Me. I have not forgotten you. You got a bit ahead of Me and you weren’t ready. The time is soon.”

Zeal propelled me forward in a self-paced momentum. I thought I was ready so off I went. God smiled and loved me through it all.

Zeal alone can’t set the pace. Wisdom paves the way in God’s timing. Wisdom often requires that we wait a bit until all the pieces are in place. Wisdom is necessary for maturity. While zeal pushes me forward in my own strength, wisdom releases me in the right time. It’s not about a fast paced track. It’s about maintaining passion and focus for the long haul, giving all glory to Jesus.

Zeal without wisdom can be disastrous.. It all starts good as we jump out but unless restrained it causes burn out, discouragement and despair. Zeal alone can’t sustain. Thank God for His grace, love and mercy in the midst of false starts.

PaintbrushAs we grow in Christ and go from glory to glory, there are platforms of breakthrough and breakout. Holy Spirit opens a door and we are encouraged to walk into a new place.

Moving in God is my life. Being in sync with my destiny positions me in that sweet spot where I know why I have been created and set into this time. This is normal Christianity for all of us. In going from glory to glory, we try, we leap, we jump, we learn, make mistakes and have some false starts.

In my life, I so often focused on the future instead of resting in the present growing in wisdom and grace.  I was not exactly a woman of great patience. As I began to think today about false starts in my life, I felt no condemnation, no regret and no failure. None of us are perfect. We are all growing in grace. False starts are part of life and always will be. They enable us to grow in humility as we look to God alone.

Friday, as I was reading a great book,  I received a series of texts from someone who gave me a lengthy accurate prophetic word. The words shot into my heart like an arrow. They traversed the depths of my heart, healing and restoring. It was prophetically stated that the word came specifically on Good Friday because my time being in the tomb, in the darkness of vision is over.

The timing of this word was perfect. It addressed all my false starts in life, healing regret and disillusionment. The word addressed betrayals from people whom I trusted. These words healed rejection from just feeling humiliated that as I tried to step out in God over the years, I was often shut down, blatantly ignored with words of condescension.

I remembered the ministry work in Kenya, Finland, Abu Dhabi……so many false starts with great risk but also great successes too. Because of the regret, I sensed that I had been counted out of the race, a perfect lie from the enemy. There were buildings rented for meetings where money was invested, life poured out and no one came. That was a great source of humiliation and pain for me.

Is God in the pain? Is God in the false start? Well, let me just say my zeal and my flesh jumped out and He didn’t stop me. He knew there was much to learn in these mistakes that would be beneficial for my future. He allowed the setbacks for me to grow in wisdom. He saw the depth of my heart. He knew that with each setback, I ran back to my Father to learn, to cry and to grow. It’s all about grace.

Over the past few months until this Good Friday, I saw a momentum building in my life, step by step, glory to glory.  The prophetic word brought it all to the forefront and closed the past – done. It is finished. So appropriate to be on Easter weekend but God is so perfect in His timing.

TruthWhat about your false starts? Mistakes? Regrets?  When you dare to jump but it may not quite be the time. Walking sheepishly to the starting line again, one is filled with pain, regret and shame. Many want to hide for a bit. That;s normal but I want to tell you that without the passion of a false start, without daring to jump, without success and failure, how can you even come to know God’s grace? God’s grace flows through our weakness to be strong. God’s grace gives us life to take risks and to take chances and to see setbacks as just a part of life. His love for us NEVER changes. It is better to jump at times, risk it all and learn from mistakes than to live life doing nothing at all.

What happens when we jump out in a false start and realize it’s a bad choice? We walk back to the starting line, dejected and a bit shamed but what we see is God loving us through it all. His simply says, “Trust me. Wait. Follow me this time.”

Standing at the starting line is a place of growth. It’s hard to stand there and see others running ahead with what seems like great favor in whatever they put their hand to in life. I was there. I stood still. I watched day after day after day. In my heart, I was resolute. No false start this time at this point in life. There is this release upon my life to travel to the nations again – to preach, to build up leaders, to impart a revelation of creativity…..and so much more. After years of jumping out, learning, going back to try again, I feel free. No regret. No shame. Only a clear path. The power of this prophetic word Friday shifted my life. May these words I write to you today give you hope to try again, to release the past and to believe God. He is faithful! My life is my message. I walk and talk it so you can be ministered to by it. I tell my story….. without any pretense of trying to look perfect. 🙂

Creative Expression – Don’t Break Your Stride!

Walking in the snowDon’t break your stride!

What does this mean prophetically to me and perhaps to you? At this point, I can’t allow anything to slow me down or to interrupt the pace at which I walk or move in Holy Spirit. I can’t allow anything to get me off of my pace or cause me to deviate from my rhythmic flow in grace.

I believe this is a ‘transition’ time for many of us. I know. That’s been said prophetically for a long time so I can grow weary of hearing it again. Yet, after years of wilderness wandering, God is speaking to me to trust, to watch, to believe, to hear, and to know. I hear the voice of God. As a Christian, you hear the voice of God.

My sheep recognize my voice. I know them, and they follow me (John 10:27 Message)

For years I have been moving, even when it felt like I was standing still. Holy Spirit leads and guides. Sometimes the surroundings were dry. Other times there was a fog or a mist blocking my vision. Yet, I am moving through it all.  Today I find myself in a place where Holy Spirit speaks and says, “Don’t break your stride!”

God sets up a rhythmic pace for me in Holy Spirit. Learning to be sensitive to His voice is key. Obeying His directives is also key to movement. We move in His grace, trusting Him with each step of our journey.

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me––watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill–fitting on you (Matthew 11:28-29 Message)

Don’t break your stride!

My peripheral vision can pull me off focus.  Looking at people, situations, or circumstances that are on the ‘edges’, off to the side trying to capture my attention, can be a major distraction. If I break stride due to weariness or even unbelief, I lose focus.  I can also break stride because of a cynical attitude that says, “Has God indeed said?” I break stride by looking around and seeing others moving faster than I am so I hurriedly try to catch up to them.

StrideI will stay in my ‘grace stride’ ordained for me by Holy Spirit. Through times of intimacy in prayer and worship, I hear His voice.

Breakthrough is taking us from glory to glory, from faith to faith. Each step Jesus Christ reveals Himself to me by Holy Spirit. My faith increases to believe in Christ alone and His way for me. It is a journey in Christ by Holy Spirit.

WalkingFebruary is a turning month for me. It may be a turning month for you too. Let me show you how the Spirit so beautifully and clearly sets up His way in that word of turning. My eyes only have to be open to see and my ears sensitized to know.

When Holy Spirit moves us, we are moved suddenly or we can move through signposts in the road. February is a month of signposts to show me the way to turning out and moving out. February 1 brought me to a prophetic conference where I received a clear word of destiny. Shortly after that, I stumbled upon a book on Amazon. From the very beginning, it felt like the author was speaking to me. Then, one day on Facebook, an acquaintance I had not heard from in some time asked a simple question, “How are you?” After just a few minutes she invited me to Canada for a time of refreshing and renewal in her home. Step by step, this February is turning for me. This is my way, my path in which I am walking.

Holy Spirit is leading you in Christ’s way and directions for you. Be still and know. Be sensitive and listen.

New Sounds Break Old Cycles!

New ‘sounds’ break old cycles – Sounds flowing out create change in the atmosphere. Sounds flowing in music. Words of declaration coming forth from your life. Rising to a new place is greatly influenced by the words we speak or the sound that emanates from our lives. There is power in what we speak. There are many creative ways of expression that bring forth a new sound in the earth today. New sounds break old cycles, yet before they do, they often have to confront the current sound that pervades the atmosphere around them. Christ in me, the hope of glory – my sound goes forth from the reality.

Soundwave

By the way, new sounds do not solely belong to a young generation. Age has nothing to do with this. Gender has absolutely nothing to do with this. A new sound rises up from the depths of one’s being, overflows into the atmosphere around them, and challenges the status quo, which often says, “Don’t rock the boat!”

New sounds break old cycles! Prophetically speaking, this is the entrance into breakthrough. It starts with the sound that permeates the atmosphere in varying ways and degrees of influence.

A word of advice:

Don’t pull an old sound into a new sound through confrontation, comparison, or contradiction.

Stay with me as I prophetically work this out. Hear me by Holy Spirit. Lots of you need to hear this because freedom comes through a new sound. Something in us is unlocked and set free. We need this. I need this.

Bring forth a new sound. In doing this, don’t constantly spend any time or effort in challenging or confronting the existing sound!

This is a waste of energy and can get you off focus. Challenge and confrontation by a new sound against an old sound will come through its own virtue. By the simple fact of what is being proclaimed from the Lord, the new sound will eventually confront and displace what is permeating the spiritual atmosphere. Be at peace with the new sound and be in the rest of the ONE who gave it to you to speak. Just speak and leave the rest to the Lord.

Bring forth a new sound. Don’t constantly compare the new sound to the old sound.

Comparison is a trap. People may draw you into comparison by intentionally or unintentionally try to instill doubt within you about your belief in your sound. They do this through words or remarks that imply “Really?” or “What if? or “Come on, do you really believe this?” Don’t let anyone mess with your mind. You have something to say from the Lord. Say it without comparing it to anything else or anyone else.

There may be a transition between an old sound and a new sound coming forth. In that transition time, we may tend to think we have to hold on to a bit of the old sound and let it intermingle with the new sound. Don’t. Break free entirely. But, but, but, we have not arrived at this point alone. I never think I have the whole picture.  I journey in the company of those who have gone before me and those who will inevitably come after my sound is proclaimed. Walk in humility and grace, allowing the Lord to take His sound flowing through you, making it what He will of it and taking it where He wants it to go.

Bring forth a new sound. This new sound is not new to God’s ears but it may be new to our ears.

Soundwave

A new sound may appear to contradict the old sound, forcing these two sounds to contradict each other, to be at odds with each other. In the spiritual atmosphere there is a tension and an opposition that will arise from the clashing of two sounds. This causes dissonance. What is that?

Dissonance is a lack of agreement that may cause sounds to clash with each other. It may indicate the two sounds are at odds with each other.

This may or may not be the case. It may depend on the old not wanting to let go and make way for the new. Let’s not forget that Jesus Christ crucified is the foundation of any new sound. He is the testimony and the life in every prophetic sound.  Move in unity and grace. Allow the new sound, ordained by God, to move out in breakthrough, allowing the Body of Christ to go to its next appropriate level. Humility and grace in God’s people will allow a flow to go forth like a river, making a way through the darkness bringing light and hope into the earth.

(I am trying to bring forth words that are spirit and life to those who read. Perhaps you read this and don’t have a clue what I am talking about here. Well, take a few insights applying it to your life in Christ. That will be very good. To those, who, by the Holy Spirit, catch what I am saying, know this. So many of us have to break free of old patterns, old cycles, old ways of thinking – to break out of a place of invisibility, out of the hinterlands – to come forth and take our stand in Christ for such a time as this.)

In Christ, Debra Westbrook
