Rivers of Eden Ministry – Creativity! This Is It!

Rivers of Eden Ministry…..Creativity Abounds in Christ Jesus

There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. (Psalms 46:4 NKJVS)

Rivers of Eden – helping people live outside the box, calling them into their unique creative identity and expression in Christ Jesus.

He also brought me out into a broad place; He delivered me because He delighted in me. (Psalms 18:19 NKJVS)

Rivers of Eden – leading people into a broad place of identity and freedom, where Christ Jesus brings deliverance, healing and restoration.

As a creative force, Rivers of Eden imparts wholeness into the lives of people who have a creative bent given to them by God. Currently, we accomplish this vision in several ways.

Discipleship – Prophetic teaching focused on living, moving and having our being in Christ Jesus. (Acts 17:28) This discipleship is based on 4 distinct sections.

  1. Being in Christ– Establishing people in a clear revelation of their salvation and transformation in Christ, prophetically teaching on the beauty of the finished work of the cross of Christ.
  2. Living in Christ– Focusing on the reality that as new creations in Christ Jesus, we are seated in heavenly places giving a fresh perspective in how we live our lives on earth.
  3. Moving in Christ– Living our life in the Holy Spirit, supernaturally manifesting heaven on earth.
  4. Creative Expression in Christ– Each of us are the creative expressions of Christ in us, the hope of glory. Through revelatory prophetic teaching, people will rise up to BE creative in whatever sphere God has placed them in the earth. As we teach on creativity and its importance in the Body of Christ, people awaken into destiny.

Prophetic Gatherings – Expressing heaven’s creative flow, we allow the Holy Spirit to lead and direct us in prophetic preaching and worship. Our heart is to establish creative teams that flow and move in distinct creative ways under the orchestration of eternity.

Mentoring, Prophesying, and Encouragement – Each of us has a creative bent whether that be in the arts, in teaching, in business, or in administration. People need to be encouraged to BE in Christ in whatever sphere He places them in the earth. Our call is to bring creativity back into the Body of Christ so that the world sees Jesus in His glory and splendor. Each life, gathering, or church service should respond to heaven’s directive. As Holy Spirit creative orchestrators, we hope to establish a creative flow wherever God sends us through the presence, glory and power of God flowing through our lives.

Arise Deborah

Elaine Tavolacci

The past few months there has been an increase in spiritual warfare against women. The Holy Spirit brought me back to a prophetic word that I had last year. I had a dream of a great swarm of large, brightly colored yellow and black bumble bees flying around in my room as I was reading my bible. When I woke up I first interpreted the bees as being symbolic for spiritual warfare, but after further study the Lord revealed something totally contrary to that. In the book of Judges the prophetess Deborah’s name means “Bee”. The Lord also revealed to me that honey represents revelation. This is the word that the Holy Spirit gave me for the Deborah’s who are arising.

Well Behaved WomenThe Lord says, I am raising up the Deborahs who will be leaders in the days ahead. They will become My voice as they carry My prophetic word to the nations. As they release My word, it will be as honey, bringing revelation. They will be righteous judges of the land, and bring a word of morality to the nations. They will move in great authority with signs following. As they set the captives free it will bring conviction and transformation. As the days grow darker, they will bring comfort to others as they distribute the milk and deliver the honey. They will shift the atmosphere wherever they go, and as they worship, strongholds will be destroyed. They will instruct others how to walk, how to war, and how to resist temptation. They will bring direction to those who are compliant to My word and correction to those who are in rebellion. They will carry a clear stream of My river because they are not tainted by the influence of darkness. Their eyes are clear because they have not been defiled by unclean images.

Take_RisksThese women will no longer be dishonored or rejected as leaders. They will not be silenced any more by the church or by the media because I have placed My anointing upon them, and My authority within them. Do not refuse them as they will carry a two edged sword to divide the religious traditions of man, from the truth of My word. They will bring a clear distinction of the genuine prophetic word and uncover that which is deception and counterfeit. These Deborah’s will arise and defeat the taskmasters and those who are oppressing the body of Christ. They will always be successful in annihilating and exposing the assignments of the enemy. They will walk in a spirit of love and forgiveness and will not take offense when being confronted with opposition. You will know them by their fruit as they release My word to the nations, bring deliverance and release those who are bound says the Lord.

Judges 4:4
Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, was judging Israel at that time.

Judges 5:12
“Awake, awake, Deborah! Awake, awake, sing a song! Arise, Barak, and lead your captives away, O son of Abinoam!

Psalm 119:103
How sweet are Your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Proverbs 24:13
My son, eat honey because it is good, And the honeycomb which is sweet to your taste.

To All The Cave Dwellers: Come into the light!

stop-scaring-meAre you a cave dweller? This is a place that many may find themselves in at this time. In caves, one adjusts to a level of comfort, whatever that may individually be, isolated from reality. To many, a cave is better than confronting the fear of what is ‘out there’. One can find solace in the safety of a cave. One can be isolated from the reality of the world, which exists in increasing fear. The light in a cave varies from pitch-black to shadows laced with illusion and imagery. In this place, one can even create their own reality. In any case, a cave is not a pleasant place to be for it evades the light of life. And, life comes with fear. That’s life.

One can live forever in a cave, isolated and alone, even when surrounded by people. One can live bound by fear, go through the motions, and yet, not really live even in the midst of their life. One can learn to see through shadows, avoiding pain and living in internal sorrow. There are self-imposed caves that people live in and these people are all around us on a daily basis. One retreats there to avoid the pain of a chaotic world, its confusion, and its uncertainty. It seems safe.

Fear abounds in caves where voices of accusation cry out. This voice consistently tries to contradict the voice of light and love, which is outside in the light trying to get you to see there is a better way. The voice of fear is powerful and its sheer purpose is destruction of your life. As I said, you live but your life is really only existing. You are not really living.

The darkest of voices accuses in the midst of the cave. The sound bounces off the walls with such a strong reverberating echo that the one who is imprisoned in the cave will repeat over time what the echo is saying.

The dark voice sounds forth: “YOU CAN’T”. This sound crashes against the walls of the cave, resounding with such fury that it penetrates the ears of the cave dweller. It echoes: “YOU CAN’T. YOU CAN’T. YoU Can’t. YOU can’t. You Can’t. you can’t. you can’t”…as it fades away.

The sound penetrates the ear of the one listening. The cave dwellers repeat this empowering sound to themselves each and every day. “YOU CAN’T. YOU CAN’T. YoU Can’t. YOU can’t. You Can’t. you can’t. you can’t………….”

It is a discordant and destructive sound that demands attention. This fear embeds itself in many lives and many don’t know how to get out. The voice continues.

“It’s not possible.”
“Give up.”
“It won’t work.”
“There is NO way out.”
“You’re stupid.”
“You’re worthless.”
“You’ll die.”

Even in the midst of great fear, to the cave dweller, the alternative is unacceptable. They won’t walk into the light. The light itself seems fearful. Having to confront pain and fear is not easy. It’s easier to stay in the cave than confront the illusion of fear. And it is just an illusion. Staying in the cave, lives are framed within the reality of fear. Lives are lived this way. I see it in people all around me. One always opts out of something one does not want to confront fear in any measure – drugs, alcohol, violence, abuse, pills…………There is a better way.

breaking chainsBe brave! Be courageous! There is nowhere to hide. The world is changing, chaotically and drastically. There is safety in the midst of it all – only in Christ. You can’t hide out. Fear seeps through the cracks and crevices of our lives.

What to do? This is for all those cave dwellers out there who are stuck in the darkness or living in the shadows, captured by fears of all kinds. You only need to come out into the light of Christ. Fear will increase in the world. This is indeed a given fact. It is only in the reality of Christ’s love that we find perfect peace to live in the midst of fear. God has NOT given us over to fear. In Christ, love conquered fear.

2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

1 John 4:18-19
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us.

Jesus is clear. There is NO FEAR in love. Perfect love (in the person of Christ) conquered fear and death. This is truth. We do not live in torment or the shadows of fear and confusion. Perfect love is victorious in Christ. Fear is an illusion, a strong one but an illusion nonetheless. There is reality in Christ Jesus.

Fear originates in death, a fear of death, the voice of death, the sound of death. Behind fear’s sound is the reality of death. Christ has conquered death on the cross so death and fear has lost its power. Death is no longer a motivator, a controller, or a manipulator in this life for as Christians, we are eternal, here and now. When Christ died, we died and we now walk and live in union in Christ. We die physically but cross over into life. That is good news.

Perhaps the last enemy to be conquered in our lives in Christ is death and its fears. Perfect love casts out fear.

Look around. There is fear everywhere and behind it is the sound of death. Whether it be Ebola, ISIS, the enterovirus attacking children, the economy, border wars, rape, crime, abuse, violence……………..death fuels fear. Yet, that is what we hear constantly through media, news outlets, and television.

The greatest thing to fear is fear itself. Theodore Roosevelt

Fear is a spirit. Christ’s death and resurrection conquered fear and death.

In Christ.
Not religion.

In Christ.
Not psychology.

In Christ.
Not self-motivation.

In Christ.
Not introspection.
In the person of Christ.

As a Christian, He lives in me. I am in union with Him. My reality. I have nothing to fear.

That does not mean that fear does not try to control and manipulate my life every chance that it gets. Each and every day fear tries to get me to retreat to the cave. It does not work. I don’t retreat because perfect love casts out fear. I won’t stop living amidst the fear and confusion of this world. Fear will not manipulate me to hide out and cringe over what may happen. There is freedom in Christ and this is supernatural reality right in the midst of fear.

Love is strong, courageous, and brave. It conquers fear and brings me life. He makes me brave to face each day in Him. The world takes its best shot. I may falter. I may fall. I may stay down for a bit. Yet, despite it all, perfect love casts out fear. In His light, there is life.

John 8:12
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “ I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.

Rivers of Eden Ministry

The Vision & The Revelation

In 1998, God breathed this ministry into my life while on a plane 30,000 feet up in the air, flying from Atlanta to the San Francisco Bay Area. Rivers of Eden is a ministry birthed in the heart of God and graciously given to Marvin and myself for such a time as this.

Genesis 2:10-14 Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads. The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one which skirts the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. And the gold of that land is good. Bdellium and the onyx stone are there. The name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one which goes around the whole land of Cush. The name of the third river is Hiddekel; it is the one which goes toward the east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.

Rivers of Eden flows from the Garden of the Lord, flowing out from the Tree of Life, Christ Jesus. Today, these rivers of life flow from our lives in ministry – Christ is in us, the hope of glory. (Col. 1:27); we are in union in Christ (1 Cor. 6:17). Jesus as the Tree of Life is the source of life for us.

The four rivers are:

Pishon – ‘flowing freely’
Gihon – ‘stream’
Hiddekel – ‘rapidly running water’
Euphrates – ‘rushing forth’

The number 4 indicates ‘universality’.

All together, this is significant for us because it means that we will bring the Gospel, the Good News of Jesus Christ in the power of Holy Spirit throughout the world, bringing people into the revelation of His grace and glory.

In Christ, we live, move and have our being. These rivers, flowing in abundance and grace, flow forth with life out of our bellies as living water. (John 7:38)

Debra & Marvin Westbrook – Our Lives

From its revelation in 1998 to the present time, Rivers of Eden has been growing, slowly, surely, obscurely, hidden for the most part, but nonetheless known by God and carried within my life.

Over the years, Marvin and I have walked through seasons of brokenness, healing, restoration, dryness, rejection, and more to learn a valuable lesson. Surrender. Surrender to Jesus Christ, the Tree of Life, to His will and to His ways so that He is glorified in our lives.

Holy Spirit leads and directs us on our path throughout the earth in ministry, into places where God has destined us to be. Our lives are sourced in Christ.

(If interested, please read Our Timeline to become acquainted with our life’s journey over the years.)

Colossians 1:27-29 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.

Our Mandate & Our Mission

Our passion is to raise up a people who will live, move and have their being in Christ, as His creative expression in the earth today. In other words, we are all unique, individual in Christ, and corporately placed in His Body to display His grace and His glory through our lives. Whether that be preaching, educating, parenting, administrating, being in business, flowing in the arts, musical, artistic – each of us live in creative expression in the Lord, not as robots or clones.

Our passion:

  • Equipping people – preaching and teaching through the lens of grace in a New Covenant reality while honoring the whole Word of God as it points to Jesus Christ.
  • Flowing in the power of Holy Spirit through prophecy, revelation, words of wisdom, words of knowledge as it builds up, encourages and exhorts the Body of Christ.
  • Demonstrating the power of the Gospel through laying hands on the sick and bringing deliverance and freedom to God’s people.

Creative Expression – The Basics – Believe and Receive

Christ in YouI am going to write a series of posts that I will refer to as ‘The Basics.” Just a few, to put on Riversofeden1 so as to be in sync with the focus and purpose of my life and ministry in Christ. It is always good to rehash some things at times to know why I believe what I do in my Christianity.

They said, “Put your entire trust in the Master Jesus. Then you’ll live as you were meant to live––and everyone in your house included (Acts 16:31 Message)

So they said, “ Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household. (Acts 16:31 NKJV)

  • To believe: to have faith in Christ; to entrust one’s spiritual being to Jesus Christ; to trust; to be persuaded; to place confidence in
  • To be saved: deliver, protect, heal, preserve; make whole; to preserve one who is in danger of destruction; to save; to rescue

I believe in Jesus Christ. On good days and bad days in my life, I believe in Christ Jesus. Believing in Him means that I am persuaded that He is God and is able to keep my life hidden in Him in my salvation, my wholeness, body, soul and spirit. I do not fluctuate in this. I believe because I am persuaded that He is who He says He is to me. This is not dependent on whether I feel it but I am persuaded in Him as the way, truth and life.

TrustIn saying this, I can navigate through life’s ups and downs, and ins and outs by being anchored in Christ, His perfection and His salvation, a gift freely given to me in grace through faith in the Son of God. Whose faith? Well, my faith can be weak some days and also hindered other days when life throws a curve ball. So, I lean into what He is and what He has done for me in the finished work of the cross. His faith, His life, His way – Christ in me, the hope of glory. I live my life in Christ.

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me (Galatians 2:20 KJV)

Christ’s life showed me how, and enabled me to do it. I identified myself completely with him. Indeed, I have been crucified with Christ. My ego is no longer central. It is no longer important that I appear righteous before you or have your good opinion, and I am no longer driven to impress God. Christ lives in me. The life you see me living is not “mine,” but it is lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20 Message)

Salvation is not a one-time occurrence but also an ongoing journey in Christ. It is an ongoing process in the sense that I am secure in the reality of the person of Christ, while at the same time walking out and in my salvation. I am saved. Not a cliché but a reality. Salvation means so much more to me than culture makes it to be. Salvation is wholeness.

May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together––spirit, soul, and body––and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:23 Message)

23 May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together––spirit, soul, and body––and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. (1 Thessalonians 5:23 Message)

So, my salvation is real, established in my life, while flowing through my life – body, soul and spirit. I am saved to BE whole, not fragmented and segregated in life. Salvation re-members me into my life hidden in Christ, wherein I find my identity and purpose in life. I lose my life to find that I have a new life in Christ. This is a simple reality.

Truth Will Set You FreeSo if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ––that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective. Your old life is dead. Your new life, which is your real life––even though invisible to spectators––is with Christ in God. He is your life. (Colossians 3:1-3 Message)

With all of this being said, I wanted to gently remind myself that I am in this time for such a time as this. Salvation gives my life meaning and depth in Christ. Christianity is a glorious adventure in Christ, in His love, His grace and His mercy. Selah.
