The Noisy Now

Sound Waves From MouthThe Noisy Now – demanding, resounding, and LOUD.

It’s an atmosphere built upon words, and words and more words. People constantly talking, about everything and at the same time about nothing. Spend any amount of time on social media and the Noisy Now demands attention. In fact, not only does it demand attention, it makes me feel that if I don’t listen, or watch, or comment or like………….I WILL MISS OUT, BE LEFT OUT. What then? Is it necessary to always be in the mix? I don’t think so. God IS the mix and wherever I am, He is. So I don’t take my cues by the Noisy Now but from all that I glean in the silence of His presence.

If I let it, the Noisy Now manipulates me into its path intent on capturing my time. Live videos, urgent posts, pictures – before I know it, an hour flies by, then two and three. It tries to imprisons me in the grasp of its insignificant sound.

Social media has overstepped its bounds in my life so I pulled the plug, giving it no attention whatsoever unless it serves my purpose. No more entitled people, bent on arguments and constant streaming of every last thought, coming into my head. Out! Out!

This all started when I looked down my news feed on Facebook and actually got stressed out by all that I was seeing. Whether I agreed with it or not, I was tired of it all. It was as if unless I checked into the Noisy Now each and every day, my life would fade into oblivion  or lack significance. This is a dangerous place to be where I blend into every sound that is coming down the line. I will lose my voice here and I will be nothing more than an echo of all that is going on around me. No! No more!

There’s an undercurrent flowing under this noisy now. It seems that we want to be listened to, for someone to show us that our life matters. When it gets to the point where all the noise distracts me, using up precious time, I retreat into silence, into intimacy with Jesus Christ. I value alone time, silence. This is my message of impartation to those younger than me. Be quiet, get alone with Jesus to find yourself, to find out who you are and why you were born into such a time as this.

The Noisy Now is not something I want to get used to, not at all. I don’t want to be a hermit but I want to treasure silence with as much expectation as when I click on every link or picture in social media, hoping it will take me on a new adventure. It doesn’t do that but Jesus will – in the silence.

img_7240This is a message that I want to get across to a younger generation – to get away, to think. Thinking is good for the soul. As a Christian, meditation builds up and strengthens my spirit. I live in the spirit, not in the noise. Life in the spirit contradicts the noise. How can I get any direction for my life without meditative silence where I can think and hear Him?

Times of intimacy with Jesus preserves my sanity, strengthens me, and builds up my identity and faith. Quiet purges away the distractions, setting me on a path to walk in clarity of mind and strength of spirit.

There are whirlwinds of endless words trying to carry me away into confusion or distraction. In silence I gain wisdom and understanding about my life. To my younger brothers and sisters…….unplug and tune into Jesus and the Holy Spirit. In His presence are wisdom, peace, guidance, and direction.

Jesus calls us away, to come apart to spend time with Him. Be still and know that He is God. Don’t be swept away by the Noisy Now.Be still.

Pursue Spiritual Realities

Peace in ChristSeated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, my paradigm of life shifts, giving me clear spiritual vision. My position in heavenly places changes my earthly perspective. I learn to see a greater reality in the spirit than what I see with my natural eyes. In the midst of the world’s chaos, I live in the spirit, Holy Spirit. Spiritual realities contradict the world’s chaos. Where there is confusion, I have peace. Where there is fear, I have faith. Where there is anxiety and worry, I have hope – in Christ. I live from this place each moment of my life.

Live by impulses of the spirit – motivated to pursue spiritual realties. Romans 8:5 (Passion Translation)

Spiritual realities form the foundation of a life, flowing and living in the spirit – in the world but not of the world. Knowing that I am a spiritual being in Christ, my identity, purpose and destiny forms in another kingdom where Christ is King and Lord. I live, move and have my being in Him, outside of time and space, in the Spirit. Infused with life in Christ, I live in the earth, bringing His life and light to flow in my life while I am physically here. Eternal realities flow in and through me in Christ.

GlassesI am an eternal being in Christ. My life is hidden in Him. From that spiritual reality, I see with a new lens of spiritual sight. I am in time for such a time as this. I don’t escape the darkness of the world but I am not captured by its journey into deeper realms of chaos. My spiritual life is a way in Christ that I live, move and have my being right in the midst of it all.

Now, how does one pursue spiritual realities?

  • Listen to the voice of God. Above all, know that as a child of God, you can hear your Father speak to you. He sets your course in life. He takes you higher into purpose and destiny. His voice is right here, even in all the noise. Learn to listen.
  • Know that Christians are spiritual beings in Christ. Be aware and fully present in that reality, discerning not only the times but also the times in your day. Discern the spirits that are not Holy Spirit – fear, anxiety, or worry to name a few.
  • Live in the light of revelation and learn to discern the darkness so that when it attacks you know where it is coming from whether that is at work, at home or out and about in your day. Learn to pick up on what is going on in the spiritual realm at all times.
  • Ask Holy Spirit to fine-tune your spiritual senses. Talk to God. Pray in tongues. Learn to listen to Him as you are moving about your day so that you can move in prophesy, words of wisdom or knowledge. Be alert to know how to respond to people with words of hope and love. Also be alert to situations where darkness may escalate right before your eyes. The Spirit may quietly tell you to pray, to leave, or to take some sort of action.
  • Spend time with the Lord, times of worship and prayer. From these times of intimacy, glory saturates your life so that the light shines so bright that when moving throughout your day, the light of Christ penetrates the darkness and always overcomes it.
  • Discern, watch, and always listen with spiritual eyes and ears. Be contrary and contradictory in your Christian walk. How? Flow in an opposing spirit of humility, grace and love no matter what you face. This flow will bring down strongholds and barriers that present themselves along your path each day. The darkness cannot comprehend this type of heavenly strength and will flee, confused and dismantled.
  • Grow in wisdom and knowledge in the Lord through reading His word.

These are just a few thoughts for today. As a Christian,  learn to walk in a greater spiritual reality in Christ. Holy Spirit will teach you.

Freedom in Holy Spirit

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (2 Corinthians 3:17) What is freedom? We talk about it. Sing about it. Preach about it. Yet, I see so many Christians living defeated, discouraged, depressed lives – tossed around by the waves of chaos and confusion that are trying to overtake the world.

Cross of Flowing watersWhere the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. The Holy Spirit is in me. The Spirit leads me. I walk in the Spirit. He is not vague, or mysterious as to only be for those more spiritual looking and sounding.

Holy Spirit is filled with passion and purpose in my life. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, in me and with me, there is freedom flowing out from me. Freedom forms the foundation of my life, the very core of my being. Freedom, not just in a meeting. Not just in times set apart for worship and prayer. Now, always, forever. Holy Spirit lives and moves in my life.

Here’s the deal. We can’t divorce the Trinity into manageable components of only what we like, taking Jesus because He appears to be more understandable . Or wanting the Father because He is all about that love. We have Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit is a mystery to many. Yet, this mystery longs to be unveiled, moving in our lives, revealing Christ, giving us direction, igniting our lives with the fire of God………..

Freedom in Holy Spirit brings liberation from the confines of the Law of Moses, an Old Covenant reality, which can veil, restricts and hides the face of Christ in the New Covenant. Maybe the law of Moses, Old Covenant, is not openly preached as such yet wherever there is a performance based structure that thrives on a religion based on law, rules, or performance to draw close to God, there is a mixture of Old Covenant and New Covenant. There is no more veil in Christ. The veil is removed.

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. Many leaders are afraid of Holy Spirit. They inhibit the movement of the Spirit, trying to legislate God’s glory through control. Many avoid the gifts of the Spirit, or even manipulate the moving of the Spirit to keep it contained according to man-made wisdom and its accompanying action. The Holy Spirit is gentle but at times can be wild – Holy Spirit will not be confined to our agenda.

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. This freedom is more than what is exhibited in a typical Charismatic service even with manifestations. Manifestations do not indicate an atmosphere of freedom in the Spirit.

How many times did we, as Charismatics, look down on those who did not appear to walk in the Spirit, speak in tongues, or manifest His presence in some way? Even in a service of this type, there can still be preached a mixture of grace and law where people shake but are not free.

breaking chainsFreedom in the Spirit is also more than the current trend of social justice movements flowing through evangelical churches. Without Christ leading the way and without the Spirit flowing through the movement, revealing Christ, it is still devoid of true freedom. Many may be quick to look down on Charismatics as being shallow, without substance yet these movements can be orchestrated by the law of performance and man’s wisdom, without Jesus being at the center.

This freedom talked about in 2 Corinthians 3:17 is deep and profound, changing and transforming individuals first in a revelation of a New Covenant reality. As individuals are changed, a corporate expression of Christ will soon then flow.

This freedom is the core and everything else flows out from it in accompanying action. Unless we are tuned into what the New Covenant has given us in Christ, we are still walking in mixture of grace and law. In that sense, our eyes may still be veiled from the reality of Christ Jesus.

Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17 NKJV)

This freedom does not subvert or downplay the beautiful reality of grace and the finished work of the cross. It is not a spontaneous, do whatever you want when you want it, total disregard for Scripture, I am free so don’t have to do anything but live by my own definition of grace type of freedom. Look at the context of the verses before it.

For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory. 10 For even what was made glorious had no glory in this respect, because of the glory that excels. 11 For if what is passing away was glorious, what remains is much more glorious. (2 Corinthians 3:9-11 NKJV)

What came through the Old Covenant in glory? Glory but there is a more excellent way when we see and take hold of the glory that excels in Christ. That is freedom.

Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech — 13 unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. 14 But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. 15 But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. 16 Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. (2 Corinthians 3:12-16 NKJV)

Paul is talking about the New Covenant in Christ, in Holy Spirit BEING a more excellent way than the way of Moses under the New Covenant.

The veil is removed. There is no obstruction to our seeing the face of Christ. Holy Spirit leads us into greater revelation of Christ.

In Christ, we are going from glory to glory to glory, shining bright with the light and life of Christ in me and in you.

As a Charismatic, I saw manifestations sensationalized in order to qualify the presence of Holy Spirit thereby often downplaying his passion and purpose which is to reveal  Christ in us, the hope of glory. We cried out to God for hours shaking and falling, trying to get His attention, as the veil covered our eyes to the fact that we are in Christ. Being in Christ, the external gyrations were not necessary and did not bring freedom, only a hunger for more manifestations. What a mess we were! Thank God for grace!

A heart of freedom in Holy Spirit grows within an individual who is awakened to their life in Christ and God’s unconditional love for them giving the Spirit to navigate this life with a divine connection to heaven.

As we are awakened to grace and our freedom in Christ, the overflow of that freedom brings a life of unveiled intimacy with the Lord in Holy Spirit. In this, there is desire and passion, which awakens within to live, move and have your being in the unconditional life and love of Christ. The overflow of this life, first individually and corporately, is an overflow of everything else – gifts, manifestation, and justice. We are in sync with God, abiding in Him doing what He is doing in the world today. We are at rest in His moving in our lives. At rest in peace in a time of war and chaos.

Freedom begins within – knowing Christ in me, Christ in you. That is a good place to start. I love you Holy Spirit.
