Today…….look no further!

1382384_651791381527683_925388398_nToday, this day, is what we have. Jesus said not to worry about tomorrow but think on Him Today. He is sufficient, able, and fully complete Today.

Today does not ignore challenges and does not disregard present fears. But….Jesus has conquered death and the grave so LIVE as seated in heavenly places. Live with intention and passion!

Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes, Matthew 6:33-34

Too much worry, too much fear going around. I am not denying their reality in trying to rule our lives. And I say ‘trying’. If fear tries to get in and worry forms our default position, our lives shift into a constant state of flux, without peace, without rest. Don’t go there. I know it’s hard when we face things that seem like mountains that just won’t move but don’t go there. Give God the chance to show Himself strong on your behalf.

Jesus said not to worry and He meant it. When we project ourselves, through our thought life into the future, we create a path that is hemmed in by fear and worry. Live today with your eyes on the future but walk in His reality today, resting in the moments. Can you really change anything through fear or worry? I don’t believe you can.

It’s great to have goals. It’s wonderful to walk in our destiny one step at a time, believing for greater and greater things but don’t try to work it out. There is beauty in rest. That seems to go contrary to the grain of what many feel today but in Christ there is rest, peace and hope AND He does use it all to work all things for His glory in your life.

What’s something you can release today into His presence and live your life in Christ? For me, it’s this whole move into North Carolina. I wake up  in faith and in trust as He leads me out in my day. I spend time in His presence and seek His face and He directs my path. There’s no 10 point plan or specific rules on how to do this. It’s all about your creative life in Christ and it all starts with intimacy. Get alone for a bit. Get quiet. Worship and wait for Him to speak into your life. He will and your life will be filled with adventure.

It won’t always be safe. It’s a journey of faith.

Living with Passion and Purpose In Christ,

Please share this with those needing the challenge of journey in Christ, a grand adventure in Holy Spirit that leads us beyond the borders of mundane Christianity into an ocean of grace and glory.

What Is Truth?

cropped-cropped-istock_000026317800medium2.jpgWhat is truth? Great minds have thought about this for thousands of years. Can I make it simple? Jesus is truth. Not ‘a’ truth. Not one truth out of many. Jesus is truth – the person of Christ, the living Word.

Jesus said, “I am the Road, also the Truth, also the Life. No one gets to the Father apart from me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him. You’ve even seen him!” John 14:6-7

Truth is simple. It’s a beautiful door waiting to be opened. Step across the threshold into a new world, a new paradigm where Holy Spirit activates spiritual senses to see and hear. Eyes are opened to see a way that opens up in Christ, challenging us to live beyond the natural chaos. It’s called kingdom and it’s my home, now.

When I look around and see all the chaos, I know that this is not my home. I physically live in this realm but over and over I remind myself that I am seated in heavenly places. In that truth, I move in a new reality in Christ. That is the heart of my message and how I live my life in Christ.

Holy Spirit is with me always, revealing Christ to me in different ways, at different times and in diverse places. Holy Spirit shows me how to navigate the waves that threaten to pull me under into the depths of confusion, fear and worry. I don’t go there. And, if the day starts out less than perfect, I remind myself through prophetic declaration that I live in another reality. I prophesy to myself. I speak life and truth to myself. I prophesy Jesus to ME, through ME and in ME. I don’t forget I am in the world but neither do I forget that I am not of the world.

I feel pain. I face fear. Through it all, my eyes are focused on the temporariness of this life and the eternal reality of my life in Christ. That gives me hope and a future despite what I see and feel around me at any given moment.

The Spirit reveals truth and that truth is Jesus Christ. He’s real and He’s alive. Truth is on the move in every corner of the world. He gives Holy Spirit to me so that I access truth in a world in chaos.

But when the Friend comes, the Spirit of the Truth, he will take you by the hand and guide you into all the truth there is. He won’t draw attention to himself, but will make sense out of what is about to happen and, indeed, out of all that I have done and said. 14 He will honor me; he will take from me and deliver it to you. 15 Everything the Father has is also mine. That is why I’ve said, ‘He takes from me and delivers to you.’ John 16:13-15

Darkness invades my thought life with so many ‘what ifs’. What if I lose my job? What if I have cancer? Fear surrounds me today on all sides and in every way possible. There are a million ways of attack, seeking to paralyze my life in the now instead of the eternal reality of life in Christ.

breaking chainsHowever darkness chooses to take form, there is truth in Christ.

Meditate on this truth.

Truth confronts darkness. Truth displaces darkness.

Almost daily, insecurity, obscurity, insignificance, terror, worry, anxiety or anger tries to invade the safety of my life. TV, social media, radio. The enemy is active. Jesus Himself said he is like a lion seeking whom he may devour. In Christ Jesus there is life and that life flows in direct contradiction to all evil tries to throw at me – security, hope, peace, and rest.

Truth builds strength within me. Christianity is not weak. It is strong. I lose my life to find my life in Christ.

Truth roots itself in and through my life, building a strong belief system. Weaving its way through my DNA forming an identity that rises above the darkness to live in eternal light. Even the smallest glimmer of light displaces the darkness that tries to encroach on my God ordained identity.

What is truth? The person of Christ Jesus. Not a formula, a doctrine, a belief system. A person – Jesus Christ.

In Christ,

Why ask “Why?” There are better questions to ask God.

Why on Red Wall“Are you asking questions grounded in faith or fear?”

This is what I heard the Lord ask me. I quickly realized what great wisdom Ezekiel had to answer the way he did.

And He said to me, “ Son of man, can these bones live?” so I answered, “O Lord God, You know.” Ezekiel 37:3

When the Lord asks me questions, I never assume that I know the answer.

God already knows the answer to the question that He’s asking me. And in wisdom, I know that this question is loaded with revelation if I submit to God and say, “Okay God you know the answer to this so help me see and understand what You want to show me today.”

His question is an open door into relationship and intimacy with the Father. As I enter into a process of discovery and conversation, I see His answer. He brings me into an awareness of something He wants to see worked out within me. God’s ready to talk. I set my agenda aside and give Him undivided attention. Revelation then flows.

“Stop asking WHY, My daughter. There are better questions to ask.”

My ‘why’ questions always seem to be fear based, narrowing my spiritual vision and cultivating unbelief. They move me into the realm of doubt and mistrust of Father God.

Why on Yellow PaperIn His presence, I soon see that most of my questions to God have come out of times of fear, feeling insignificant or forgotten. They proceeded from the same lie the enemy used in the garden of Eden “Has God indeed said?”

Why is this happening?
Why are You letting this happen?
Why is my life going this way?
Why have Your forgotten me?

Asking ‘why’ is a loaded question. And, God is not obligated to answer my ‘why’ questions.

Over these past years, I asked ‘why’ so many times, I was bored with hearing myself. His answer to these questions? Silence. I came to understand that silence speaks louder than words at times. Especially God’s silence.

He answered at some point with another questions and it was not what I wanted to hear.

“I’m not answering your ‘whys’. Why don’t you try another question?”

To always question ‘why’ paralyzed me with fear often leading to regret, shame or guilt.

It’s only been recently that I decided to change my questions to God in another form.

This simple turning increased faith in me to believe in some foundational truth that the enemy was trying to erode through my ‘why’ questions. My foundation restored in faith helps me to see:

  • He desires that I trust His ways, which are greater and more mysterious than mine.
  • To trust that my life is being worked out for His eternal purpose to bring Him glory.
  • That He is my Father who loves and works it all for good.
  • And…that life does not go the way I planned.

Asking questions that are filled with faith in His goodness gives God the opportunity to speak within unlimited possibilities that open my eyes to see and to believe.

Rather than ‘why’ all the time, I stand on a firm foundation of His promises (no matter how long they seem to be delayed in coming). I ask from a faith filled perspective of trust. It’s as simple as that……..I made it complicated by always looking for the ‘why’ answer.

I take His promises and believe no matter what I see.

This assumes that you know your promises. If you don’t, some alone time with God is necessary. Get your journal, a pen or a computer and sit and pray and worship, trusting your Father to speak to YOU.

Consider that today is the day to  change your questions to God.

His promises unfold with the right questions. Try some new ones.

How do you want me to walk out this vision step by step every day?
What are the daily acts of obedience that You want me to do so that I walk towards its fulfillment?
Where do you want me to go or to travel to receive impartation, inspiration, and creative ideas?
Who are you bringing to walk alongside me?
What type of creative people?
Can I see them through your eyes?

TrustThese are just a few open-ended questions that I now ask God but they are all grounded in a foundation of His faithfulness. He answers these questions because I choose to walk into a realm of faith where I now see differently.

Seeing the Invisible

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

My Christian life is a journey, an adventure and is filled with open-ended questions that I am still learning to ask.

A New You! Jesus Is Not An Add-On

Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life burgeons! Look at it. (2 Corinthians 5:17 Message)

We are NEW creations. Never revealed in time but new creations in the earth with Christ in us. New – I buy a new car, an upgrade from my previous model. I call it new because it is new to me in time. But it really is still a car so how new is that? Same basic characteristics – tires, steering wheel, engine. It looks different from my old car but it is a car. Drive a Tesla and people may look your way but basically a Tesla will still serve the purpose of a VW in getting you where you want to go.

This new that Paul talks about in 2 Corinthians is a totally new ‘new”. It’s the Greek word Kainos which, when we actually think about it and look at it closely is quite an awesome revelation.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJVS)

Kainos – New – new in quality; unique; novel; unusual; innovative.

According to Crowder in the book Mystical Union:

“God didn’t just add the new you on top of the old you. He replaced the old version with a totally new version.”

TeslaThink about this. When we come on the scene, we are new. People should not look at us as simply an upgrade in an earthly life with the add-on of Jesus. If that is the case, why bother? If Jesus is only an add-on there is little power or purpose in that. If I’m poor, down and out and win a Tesla driving it through the streets of LA, people may look at me because of this expensive car but the person inside driving is still the same – nothing’s changed but the addition of the Tesla.

A new creation in Christ – it’s not an add-on. We are new creations able to be in Christ and to do all that Jesus says we can do. Lay hands on people in the power of heaven and see the lame walk, the dead raised and the blind see? Yes. Operate as eternal beings in heavenly wisdom, seeing what others can’t see and knowing what others don’t know? Yes. How about transcending time and space and stretching out in that place in the Spirit, truly exploring places in the Spirit led by Holy Spirit in faith. Yes. But that is something to explore at another time.

2470168022_1fc91cce26_z (1)Think about this. We are new creations operating out of a new eternal order, in Christ, never seen before. Christ is in us, Holy Spirit leads and guides us, Father loves us – our connection in heavenly places is secure. This is new, and not seen anywhere until the infilling of the Holy Spirit after Jesus ascended to heaven. Remember, He told us He would never leave or forsake. He told us that He would send us Holy Spirit. Jesus kept all those promises and waits for us to know that we are new.

So now what? How to see this? What to do with this? First of all this revelation has to be securely planted in the foundation of our lives. Once we get it and truly know it we realize that we are citizens of another kingdom. In the world but not of the world. We can search out the deep things of God in the Spirit. That is ours in Christ.

But what if you feel so earthly today that searching out the deep things actually is not that appealing because, let’s face it, life is dealing you some harsh blows. Children out of control. Depression setting in. Not enough money to pay the bills. Discord. Confusion. Disunity. A long list of life’s realities follows you wherever you go.

Despite all of this, you are still a new creation. Feel like it? No? Just believe it in faith. So many of us have been taught this verse with religious connotations. We have the knowledge of the verse in our heads but no experience how to rise up in our hearts. We can give lip service to quote this verse but the reality of its true meaning in our hearts is simply not there when life hits us with all its chaos.

Here’s reality about being new:

Fear no longer grips us and holds us. Anxiety no longer rules and reigns in our lives alongside worry. They may be reality but there is a higher reality in which we have righteousness, peace and joy in life despite outward circumstances.

Purpose and destiny calls to us from the heavenly realm to walk in this world with a new focus to flow through our new lives. It is heavenly centered manifesting on earth. Through the power of Holy Spirit we connect as eternal beings in Christ fully formed in our identity as being from another world.

This does not deny the fact that we still feel pain, still encounter trials and persecution. We are in Christ. We have to operate in revelation with the aid of new spiritual senses –how to live in the earth with eternal perspective. Our spiritual senses consistently reveal to us how to operate in another realm while in the earth. That is how I live my life in the power of Holy Spirit. I am a new creation. In Christ, you are a new creation. There truly is so much to say about this. But, let’s start here.

In Christ, you are spiritual. I am spiritual. It’s time to be so heavenly minded that the kingdom flows through us in power, bringing life into dry places. Bringing hope to the lost. Bringing joy to the depressed. Living eternal in Christ right now, bringing healing wherever we go. It starts with me and it starts with you right now. New… Christ. Spend some time in the presence of the Lord and ask Him to reveal this to you day by day.

Procrastination – Fear Paralyzes, Praise Releases

Being praised in the process, not at the end of it all, is important.  God praises our process so that we walk in hope despite our fears that try to paralyze us, causing us to procrastinate. It’s important for us to know that we are not defined by the outcome of the process but the process itself frames our life of creativity. The world demands that we perform, often holding back any praise until they see the final product. They define us by the product which goes to reason since the current mantra is that you are only as ‘good’ as your last book, your last cd, your last whatever. That’s a horrible way to live.

imitationquotesIf you live like that you fall into a performance mode (or even worse, depression and discouragement), defining yourself by what you do instead of who you are in the journey of life. Procrastination thrives on fear, perfectionism, doubt, self-debasement, and more. It is that deep inner voice that whispers to us, paralyzing us in process.

If we, as human beings, as parents, as leaders, would seek to praise people during the process, that would open up a well of creativity within people who are being blocked by fear. Who knows what could come forth if many were challenged to create and not produce? I am convinced it is praising in the process of the journey that moves us forward.

I am not talking about trite clichés spoken without heart. You know, where there is a current of being positive that is nothing more than words that are shallow, without meaning. “You can do it” or “Go for it” or “You’re the best.” These are shallow words at best, generic in form and tone.

I am talking about getting connected with people in their process, their journey, extending words of encouragement along the way. Words that are of the Spirit, filled with life and with truth. When procrastination hits, words of life come forth speaking right into the person on their journey. Words that uplift, encourage, challenge and even discipline and confront, all covered in love. That is authentic Christianity and that requires true leadership. I want to see that anointing move in me more and more each day.

quotes-on-adventure-2Creating involves risk and procrastination keeps one paralyzed in the fear of the moment. Creativity moves past procrastination and even thrives on mistakes in the process. Creativity involves moving in the now while focusing on the future and what can be and not on the bottom line for profit. (Have you noticed how we do this quite often in Christianity? ARGH!!!) Creativity involves leaving any safety zone to find out who we can be, our authentic selves. Procrastination keeps us tethered to a safety zone. In that place, we live our lives not really living, jut going through the motions.

My kids are in their 30’s. I learn a lot from them. They think differently than me. I love that. That’s a good thing. One phrase I will NOT let pass my lips – “Back in the day…” I don’t want to live back in the day but in the now. We need each other, desperately.

In the heart of those under 35, (under 40?) I sense a desire to authenticate their lives through their own inner passions, to be whom they are created to be. That is where I come into the picture. My heart and the heart of Rives of Eden has always been to cultivate creativity among the generations. There is this anointing in me to shepherd the creative. Let’s see how this blog will turn in this focus.

So, have a wonderful Thanksgiving AND stop procrastinating – allow God to praise you in the process – how beautifully formed you are in Christ. How glorious your life can be when you put all trust in Him. He knows you and loves you through and through.

Feel free to comment okay? I want to encourage all creatives to come forth to be who God has called them to be. That’s you and YES you are creative in Christ. As Christians, the creator God breathed His life into our lives and that makes us creative in so many different ways. So, write, paint, draw up that business plan, administrate, teach…do what beats in your heart. I am here to be part of the journey and speak into your process…with praise.
