The Battle Over The Spoken Word

There is a battle taking place over the spoken word.  People are picking and choosing their words so carefully to avoid offense and yet, offense is stirring on all fronts. When we pick and choose our words so very carefully, we actually can dull or dilute their meaning so as to leave them with little or no effect.

Voice Not An EchoSo often we speak and before we finally get to the point, we hide our meaning behind so many qualifiers that it’s hard to actually find the point. These qualifiers (excess words) serve to only diffuse the truth in an attempt to make everybody happy and satisfied with a sense of entitlement.

Too many games being played as people try to stand for all things and actually in doing this, we stand for nothing and the beat goes on. Speak the truth.

Speak the truth at all times or say nothing at all. And don’t fear man…….walk in wisdom speaking the truth found in Christ, at all costs. It’s actually worth it. We feel good inside when we know we have not compromised our core beliefs. Walk in wisdom also. That gives a double benefit in not only knowing when to speak but what to speak, the right words. .

Truth Will Set You FreeWisdom weaves a path as we speak truth. This path can be through the minefield of public opinion which will annihilate you with opposing words if you challenge any sacred cow. This path can be accusatory as people think your words are not loving enough, kind enough. Wisdom weaves a path and it is not easy but as I said, if you stand for everything, you stand for nothing. How desperately we need truth speakers that don’t hesitate to sound forth what is  necessary for these days.

What is truth, you say? Truth is embodied in the person of Christ Jesus who actually said that He is the way, the truth and the life. People are aghast, at times, at the brevity of that statement and what it truly implies. Truth? One way? Christ?

Yes. He said it. He meant it. It’s often said that to say something like that, one must either be a lunatic and liar or a truth speaker. I believe He is a truth speaker and my life centers on this truth. Jesus Christ.

There is a path of wisdom in speaking truth but even when spoken the best way possible, offense is on the rise, stopping up the ears of those who refuse to hear any side but their own.

A Clear Sound in Christ

TruthIntimidation enslaves us within a prison of fear where we feel threatened, bullied, harasses, and subdued. When words are used as a weapon to silence us, they paralyze and take our breath away. We gasp for air at times, losing our voice, losing our sense of who we are, what we believe. It takes courage to stand up for what we believe in. But, is there any other way? To constantly compromise by appealing to the masses leaves one divided inside, lacking unity and wholeness. To constantly look around before one speaks trying to step in sync with a current sound is not necessarily wisdom but a fear of man.

I am going to reference yesterdays blog – digging a little deeper in what she said in the first paragraph.

Speak the Truth
Frances J. Roberts

“Lo, I say unto thee, be not intimidated by anyone, but speak forth My Word, even as I give it unto thee. Ye have written freely and fearlessly. Now speak in the same way. Thy spoken word must be brought into conformity with the work I have done within thee. This ye need for your own personal sense of unity. This ye need for your own strength. For the house divided against itself cannot stand; neither can ye so long as ye bear one testimony in thine heart and another on thine lips.

In other words, speak the truth, no matter what it costs. And if you can’t speak the truth, t stay silent, waiting in wisdom for the right time rather than walk in presumption and end up in a war of words. It all goes back to when to speak and when to be silent.

The Truth Will Set You FreeWords frame our life – our own words (For as a man thinks, so he is – Proverbs 23:7) and those of others. Words are meant to build up, even if they are strong words. Wisdom helps us see what to take in, what to say, when to say it, and how to say it. Wisdom will not be silent and looks for those who can handle the heat in order to speak truth in the person of Christ.

Intimidation makes us cower and hold back and in the process, we lose ourselves and our voice. Not a good thing for any of us.

In my salvation there is wholeness, a unity in Christ, the life of Christ forming my life, my thoughts, my being. The Living Word  forms me in His image, imparts to me mind of Christ and transforms me in His divine nature. The truth (the person of Christ) sets me free. I am not a parrot and neither are you. His creative expression is to flow freely through our lives. Yet, look around? There is continual opposition to silence Christ in me, the hope of glory. So, what to do? Speak the truth despite the cost. Truth is in the person of  Christ. It is not vague and nebulous but contradicts the prevailing sound of the world, in true love, empowered in abundant grace.

Today, one’s voice can be silenced completely or lost amidst an ocean of information and social media noise. I believe that the sound of the Kingdom, moving contrary to the world while being in the world, will sound forth through many in this time. It is and will be a sound that will not cower when confronted by lies or deception. Truth is moving right through the lies and deception to forge a clear path in the midst of darkness. Truth in the person of Christ, the reality of His salvation and the message of the Kingdom is clear, filled with the fresh breath of the Spirit, and so contrary to the confusion today.  The world waits for a clear sound and many will be drawn to this clarity of conviction. But, we have to speak, know when to speak, how to say it and ultimately pay the price for our words. Many simply don’t want to hear it but who can resist speaking forth the glory of Jesus Christ.

Words overflow around us. Information increases in leaps and bounds. Opinions escalate and force their way in to be heard. Yet, truth is in the person of Jesus Christ – this sound will never be silences and can never be extinguished no matter what kind of opposition comes against it.

Speak the truth – not in quantity, but in quality of life that flows through us in Christ. This sound change nations, revitalize cities, transform people and raise up a standard of life in a death culture.

One Way

TruthThis is all so much bigger than me. This thing called life and the working out of it all. It’s best to walk in humility and grace as I apprehend truth and revelation. Trying to defend my corner of the world, I can find myself upended when God reveals Himself to me in a way that I don’t expect or even comprehend. Life as I know it, walk it, and see it is so much bigger than me. Life is breathtaking, awesome, magnificent and majestic in Christ. I need some awesome again.

There are seasons of life where my foundational beliefs flow in life again, not just lodged in the area of my heart on a shelf called “What I should Know by this Time”. Foundational beliefs are easily challenged in the realm of social media, tolerance at all costs, new trends, opinions, arguments, images and input from every diverse opinion on the planet easily flows. Facebook can crack my foundations and try to get me to believe that what I believe is not quite right, not quite open-minded enough, not quite true.

I deactivated Facebook for now. How long? Long enough for me to get my personal bearings in Christ and His simplicity right on target again. Long enough to see the course that Jesus has charted for my life without the distraction of constant noise that subliminally unnerves me on Facebook.

talking headsIt’s easy to move in the ebb and flow of Facebook, in the transitional waters that try to take me down into various currents. The grace current, the political current, the prophetic current, left-wing, right-wing, constant images, atheists, agnostics, progressives, liberals, evangelicals, new age and more. I unplug or I will lose myself in the process. It’s true, you know. And, that is what I did – at least for a while.

Facebook is a never-ending series of words and images that seem to be going nowhere for me. For me, maybe not for you. The waters are always moving to the next trend of belief and they are always trying to shift people. At this time in my life, I want to stand secure on the rock of Christ Jesus. Him alone. My voice sounds forth as I stand on a sure foundation, not one that is rocky, shaky or moving erratically with the times. There is no safety or security outside of Christ.

The foundation of my life:

Way Truth LifeJohn 14:6
Jesus said to him, “ I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Jesus is the way. He is the name above all names and the way to Father God. He is the way – not Allah, Buddha, not Confucius. He is my way, my truth, my life.

To make this claim, as He did, is either lunacy or the simplicity of truth. I believe He is truth, in its ultimate simplicity that makes a person believe or walk away.

He is love.
He is light.
He is life.

I am fully committing myself to this reality again in my life. Now, don’t get me wrong. I never stopped believing this. He is the way. Yet, amidst the constant noise of social media and the world at large, it’s easy to get lost in its flow. My voice sounds forth with clarity, despite any opposition. His way flowing through my life – no other way. No other life, outside of Christ. This truth being revived in my heart opens up a door into which I walk, again. Where do I find myself? In a broad place of life and light. In Christ. In Him I live and move and have my being.

Future posts will flow from this reality – with challenge, confrontation, love, simplicity, life. My life reached a point where I must affirm this reality in my writing. It never is popular. One can easily see that. But, I never was popular anyway. Why start now? It’s easy to lose your life and voice if you’re not careful.
